Both teams took time to settle in the early stages, the first piece of action saw Gary Humphries slicing through the Trebanos back division to link with Chris Isaac and Dewi James, Penclawdd drove to within five yards of the Trebanos line and the resulting ruck saw scrum half Steve Ham dart over for the first score of the game. Outside half David Lewis converted to make the score 7-0 to Penclawdd
From the kick out Penclawdd pressed again with a promising back move but an interception by Huw Preece saw him race home from a full seventy yards, however the try went unconverted and the score stood at 7-5
Trebanos were pushing hard from the re start and looked like scoring again, but an excellent try saving tackle from Penclawdd full back Dewi James saved the home side.
The next action in the game saw Penclawdd attack through Kevin Hughes the Penclawdd captain who put in a superb kick ahead for flying winger Gareth Austin to chase, he narrowly missed the touchdown as the Trebanos defence scrambled to cover their line.
Penclawdd continued to press and some excellent work by flanker Gareth Swistun resulted in the ball being spun wide along the slick Penclawdd back division to put winger Gareth Austin in the clear for the touchdown.
Trebanos rallied from the restart and outside half Steffan Penhale dummied his way through the Penclawdd back division to score under the posts, the conversion by Chris Jenkins resulted in the scores being tied an 12-12. A penalty late in the first half was converted by outside half Dai Lewis to leave the half time score at 15 - 12 to the home side.
In the second half Penclawdd seemed more settled and some good lineout ball won by Anthony Griffiths gave Penclawdd a glut of possession, the ball was used wisely and winger Gareth Austin and centre Gary Humphries made some excellent breaks for the home team. Penclawdd were enjoying the possession they were having, and this resulted in Gareth Swiston feeding prop Andrew Jacket in mid field who caused havoc in the Trebanos defence before off loading the ball to the on form winger Gareth Austin who made excellent ground before releasing Phil Sage to score a superb try. From the restart Trebanos were again strong and attacked through their back division and only a try saving tackle by Dewi James again saved the home side from the tackle Penclawdd burst out of defence through some tremendous driving play by flanker Stuart John and Kevin Hughes took play to the half way line, the backs were released and Gary Humphries put fellow centre Phil Sage through the gap, Sage then linked with Andrew Jacket and Steve Ham who then sent flanker Gareth Beynon over for the try of the match. Again from the restart Trebanos were strong and replied immediately through Chris Jenkins who powered over, he converted his try and the scores stood at 25-19
In the last minutes of the game Penclawdd again pressed and the pressure paid off when a five metre scum resulted in another try by livewire scrum half Steve Ham, the conversion attempt failed but the home side were home and dry in what was a very entertaining opening game of the season, the final score was Penclawdd 30 Trebanos 19,
